Design Book Sale: Feb. 20 & 21

I put together a small collection of logos from mostly vintage instruments and audio equipment. The logos were found on Google, Vintage Synth Explorer (a great resource!), and my own equipment and owners manuals. I hope to add to this collection as I can find more. Dropular is a new media bookmarking site by Superb. It’s obviously modelled after the increasinly popular and still exclusive image bookmarking site ffffound, but unlike ffffound you can also add (“pinch”) videos and websites, and follow other users. Think Tumblr without the commentary.
A major difference from ffffound (invite-only) would be if they open registration when the design is complete. To maintain quality of content, Dropular currently uses a Report button that will remove images from the pool after 3 votes for removal.
I still find it easier to browse quickly through related images on ffffound, but the ability to add videos and websites makes Dropular more useful. There’s a beta forum on the site with constant feedback about and updates to the site each day. Browse the site, or see my drops.
Bonnaroo 2009 Lineup Animation
This animation for the 2009 Bonnaroo concert lineup uses stop motion photography and cut paper to create a tunnel effect. As far as I know, this technique was developed in an animation by Javan Ivey. The Bonnaroo video was done by Ghost Robot and includes a 3D version and a video documenting the process.
I think the execution is great. At first glance I thought it might be an After Effects job faking the analog process, but they did it by hand. Wow!
