Audible Artist: David Ellis

Being a follower of music and visual art, I’m always interested in seeing the two converge, with pieces including (and often combining) painting, electronics, sculpture, installation, experimental music and multimedia. Over the next week I will be profiling some of my favorite and recently discovered artists in this corner of art. First up is David Ellis (aka Skwerm).
I only knew of Ellis from his Barnstormers project around 2001 which involved painting old barns in rural towns around the US, until I saw his interview in the documentary film The Run Up which shows his interesting sound installations:
The the analog components of his sound-making devices (air tubes, gears, paper & wood) make them seem like sentient creatures, and make the spaces seem more like a mad scientist’s lab than an art gallery.
